Sign Update 3/23/2020
Good evening Leland Panthers. I hope you are enjoying your “spring” break and all this white stuff we are being blessed with today. As a reminder, the school sack meal program begins tomorrow. We are still going to have pick up or delivery options available from 10am-noon. Please, as the governor has mandated, avoid social gatherings by only sending one person per family to pick up meals if you have selected the pick up option. It is best not to be traveling in groups especially to public places, and we really all need to do our part by following the Shelter-in-Place/Social Distancing order.
If you have not signed up for this free sack meal program, which includes breakfast and lunch items, and need these items for your Leland School students, please email Mrs. Niles (aniles@leland1.org) or Mrs. Bland (mbland@leland1.org) as soon as possible to ensure enough meals are packaged.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this constantly evolving crisis.
Please read the attached letter from Mrs. Moore and Mr. Bickel with an update from Governor Pritzker - 3/20/2020

Panther families - please take a moment to read the following message regarding District provided sack meals for students during this time of mandated school closure.
I strongly encourage you to call or send an email with the number of students that will be participating in the program so we can have an accurate food count. To begin with you will receive a combined sack breakfast & lunch per day for Monday, 3/23/2020 through Friday, 3/27/2020. (If you sign up, you will be signed up for all 5 days next week).
ALL LELAND CUSD 1 STUDENTS will be free for these sack meals.
It is very important that you let us know if you will be available to pick up or if you will need delivery. Deliveries will be made daily between the hours 10:00am-noon. If no one is home at the address listed in TeacherEase, the sack will be left near the door. Pick up will be available at the school by the main office during the same hours.
We do not have a menu available at this time.
I have attached a document that spells out the information needed. If it is convenient for you, please fill that out and email to Mrs. Bland or myself no later than 3:00pm FRIDAY, 3/20/2020. If it is easier, please call and leave a voicemail with the appropriate information!!

A message from the Media Center:
The Media Center will be open today (3/16) until 4:30 to return/check out library books only. After today, it will be closed until March 31st. Additionally, Mrs. Stegman will be sending out a code for all students to access Epic Books online.
A message from Mrs. Cameron to students in the music department that sold cheesecakes:
The music department cheesecake delivery will remain as previously scheduled. Unless I hear otherwise from the company, cheesecakes will be delivered on Thursday, March 19th. All cheesecakes will be ready for pick up between 2:30-5:15 p.m.
It is imperative that they are picked up between these hours and not left at the school. They will not keep without being frozen or refrigerated. Unfortunately I do not have room in my own freezers at home, and the school freezers are also filled to capacity.
You will be notified of any changes, should they occur.
A COVID-19/E-learning/School Closure update from Mrs. Moore - 3/15/2020
This morning, and throughout the day, district administrators are working with ISBE and each other to clarify requirements and determine best practices for our students, families, and staff. Thank you for your patience as Mr. Bickel and I continue to work to provide information to you that is efficient, effective, and observes the intention of social isolation to lessen the spread of COVID-19 through our communities.
Monday will be considered a teacher institute day for our faculty. By the end of the day on Monday every student will be contacted by his or her classroom teacher(s) with specific directions for Tuesday through Friday. We plan to be back in session with student attendance in the building on Tuesday March 31 per the Governor's order. However, as this situation is fluid, we will communicate with you necessary changes as we get updated information.
The building will be open on Monday from 7:30 - 4:00. Students and staff will be able to come in and get any necessary materials throughout the day. We request that they respect the intention of the school closure for the purpose of social isolation, and refrain from gathering and visiting together.
For students with lockers, please retrieve any food items or let us know and we will remove for you. We don't want any stinky surprises in our upcoming weeks! You won't get in trouble for having it...we just want to make sure it doesn't fester and appreciate your cooperation.
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOORE AND MR. BICKEL:
Governor Pritzker announced a mandatory public school closure starting Tuesday, March 17 through March 30. This affects all school programming and extracurricular activities. Use of the facility by members and groups of the community is also suspended during this time. Monday, March 16 students will not be in attendance. This day will be used for teacher preparation for e-learning plans, which will go into effect for Tuesday through Friday. Teachers will contact students (and parents when grade level appropriate) with information for e-learning assignments. There will be no e-learning days during the week of spring break. Currently, student attendance is expected to resume on Tuesday, March 31.
It is critical to understand the unprecedented nature of closing schools statewide to control the spread of a contagious illness, the importance of practicing social isolation and distancing, and the ramifications of disregarding these practices. We are working hard to ensure the best possible opportunities for continuation of instruction and learning during a time of national crisis. We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and we will continue to communicate throughout this process.

A Message from the Principals of the Jr. 10 Conference (this is our junior high conference):
The Jr. 10 continues to actively monitor reports on COVID-19 and follow guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and local health departments.
The Jr. 10 has decided to postpone the Jr. 10 Spelling Bee at Serena High School scheduled for March 17th. We are evaluating each Conference event as the situation continues to evolve.
All decisions are being made with the safety and well being of our students in mind, and we are being as responsive as possible with the information we are gathering.
Leland School will continue to pass along information as we receive it.
